Petition to the Warwick Planning Board

Opposition to Proposed 14 Residential Duplex Units

Proposed Project Address: 80 Posnegansett Ave, Warwick RI 02888

To: Warwick Planning Board

Warwick City Hall, Warwick, Rhode Island

We, the undersigned residents and property owners of the City of Warwick, respectfully submit this petition to express our opposition to the proposed development of 14 residential duplex units planned for a neighborhood with narrow roadways, existing traffic congestion, and a pond containing established natural habitats.

Conflict with Planning Department Mission

The mission of the Warwick Planning Department is to serve the needs of Warwick residents by providing planned, responsible, and orderly growth and development of the city." This proposal directly conflicts with that mission by introducing higher-density residential development into an already congested area with limited infrastructure and sensitive environmental resources.

Traffic, Safety, and Infrastructure Concerns

Narrow streets and existing congestion make the area unsuitable for increased traffic generated by 14 residential duplex units, creating safety risks for residents, pedestrians, and emergency responders.

Environmental and Drainage Impacts

Additional impervious surfaces associated with the proposed development will increase stormwater runoff and drainage into the nearby pond, risking pollution, flooding, erosion, and long-term harm to natural habitats.

Neighborhood Character

The scale and density of the proposed 14 residential duplex units are inconsistent with the existing low-density residential character of the neighborhood.

Request for Action

We respectfully request that the Warwick Planning Board deny approval of the proposed development of 14 residential duplex units due to conflicts with its mission and the significant risks outlined above.
