The Issue

Reconsider the Removal of Challenge Certificate Status from the North East of England Toy Dog Society.

We, the undersigned exhibitors, breeders, breed club members, and supporters of pedigree Toy Dogs, respectfully urge The Royal Kennel Club to reconsider its decision to withdraw Championship Show and Challenge Certificate (CC) status from the North East of England Toy Dog Society with effect from 1 January 2029.

The North East of England Toy Dog Society has worked tirelessly to promote and support Toy breeds and, after many years of successfully staging Open Shows, was awarded Championship Show status and the allocation of Challenge Certificates only three years ago. This achievement was widely welcomed by exhibitors and enthusiasts throughout the region.

As the only dedicated Toy Dog Society in the North of England currently offering Challenge Certificates, the Society provides a valuable opportunity for exhibitors to compete at Championship level without the need to travel extensively to shows elsewhere in the country.

We recognise that The Kennel Club has undertaken a review in response to declining entries across some breeds and groups. However, we believe that removing CC status from the North East of England Toy Dog Society risks reducing opportunities for exhibitors in the North and may discourage participation rather than encourage growth and engagement.

The Society has demonstrated its commitment to the promotion of Toy breeds and should be given the opportunity to continue building on the progress made since Championship status was granted. The relatively short period during which CCs have been on offer means that the full benefits and potential of the Society's Championship status have not yet had sufficient time to be realised.

We therefore respectfully request that The Royal Kennel Club:

1. Reconsider its decision to remove Challenge Certificate status from the North East of England Toy Dog Society.

2. Review the criteria and evidence used in reaching this decision, taking into account the Society's recent elevation to Championship status.

3. Consult with breed clubs, exhibitors, judges, and other stakeholders before any final decision is implemented.

4. Explore alternative measures that would support and strengthen Toy Dog showing in the North of England.

By signing this petition, we support the retention of Challenge Certificate status for the North East of England Toy Dog Society and the continued development of Championship-level opportunities for Toy Dog exhibitors throughout the North of England.

Please sign and share this petition to help secure the future of Championship Toy Dog showing in our region.
