Petition to the City of Salem: Addressing Security Concerns in Pringle Park Plaza Parkade

The Issue

To: City of Salem Officials, Department of Parking Services

Subject: Request for Security Measures in Pringle Park Plaza Parkade

We, the undersigned, are employees, business owners, and stakeholders who rely on the Pringle Park Plaza parkade for our daily parking needs while working in downtown Salem.

It has come to our attention that despite paying $65 per month for parking permits, the Pringle Park Plaza parkade lacks essential security measures such as surveillance cameras and routine security patrols. This lack of oversight has resulted in a concerning number of vehicle break-ins, acts of vandalism, and violence. There have been several documented incidents, two of which have directly impacted employees from a single business.

The lack of accountability and lack of proactive measures from the City of Salem is deeply troubling. As paying patrons of this facility, we expect the funds collected from our parking permits to be allocated toward ensuring a safe and secure environment. The absence of basic security measures leaves our property vulnerable and creates unnecessary financial and emotional distress for those affected.

Our requests are as follows:

1. Installation of surveillance cameras in the Pringle Park Plaza parkade to deter criminal activity and assist in identifying perpetrators.

2. Regular security patrols to enhance safety and provide immediate assistance if needed.

3. Transparency from the City of Salem regarding how parking permit funds are utilized, ensuring that a portion is dedicated to improving parkade safety.

We strongly believe that these measures are reasonable and necessary to uphold the trust of those who contribute to the city's economy and revenue. Employees and business owners should not have to bear the burden of parking fees while their vehicles and personal belongings remain at risk.

By signing this petition, we urge the City of Salem to take immediate action to address these concerns. Failing to do so not only jeopardizes the safety of individuals but also diminishes the confidence and cooperation of those who work and operate businesses in downtown Salem.

Sincerely,
Bailey Harper
