Dear City of Duluth,

We, the undersigned, believe in a simple yet meaningful idea—that everyone deserves a place to rest. The Skywalk is a wonderful part of our city, connecting people and places, but something important is missing: benches. Right now, there’s nowhere to sit, nowhere to pause, nowhere to simply take a breath.

Not everyone can stay on their feet indefinitely. Workers on a break, parents with little ones, older adults, people with disabilities, or anyone needing a moment to rest—having a place to sit isn’t a luxury; it’s a basic need. Benches make spaces more welcoming, more inclusive, and more human. They invite us to slow down, connect, and truly experience our city.

A simple bench can make a big difference. It’s not just about comfort; it’s about community. A place to wait for a friend, to share a conversation, or to simply enjoy a moment of stillness—this is what makes public spaces feel truly public.
