Support for expansion of Hatboro-Horsham School District Aquatic Facilities
This petition had 539 supporters
There has been recent discussion regarding the construction of new or expanded indoor aquatic facilities within the Hatboro-Horsham School District. The current pool at Simmons Elementary is both outdated and too small to meet the needs of our growing community. Currently, the 6-lane pool is used for numerous activities including community swim lessons, the HHAA swim and dive team, the USA swimming program, the high school swim and dive team, community swimming and water aerobics to name a few. The end result is that each group using the pool is limited in the time they have in the water and the pool is crowded during peak utilization.
The construction of new and/or expanded aquatic facilities, to include an indoor ten-lane pool at the very minimum, would be in keeping with the district's mission to promote physical fitness and gives our youth swimmers and divers the best opportunity to advance in their sport. Additionally, it would benefit the community at-large to expand aquatic facilities in the district which would allow for other water activities not currently available (i.e. water polo, scuba diving lessons, etc).
A 10-lane pool and additional diving board would also open up opportunities to host swimming/diving championships which would help to generate revenue for the district. This is not an option currently at Simmons due to its small size and outdated facilities.
The school board has not heard much feedback from the community on this issue. If you are a Hatboro-Horsham school district resident and are in favor of expanding access to state of the art indoor aquatic facilities in our community, please sign this petition. Additionally, if you want your voice to be heard, please consider contacting the Hatboro-Horsham School Board and/or attend school board meetings to express your opinion. The school board needs to hear from the residents in order to represent their constituents.
The next school board meeting is Monday, March 6th at 7pm in the board room of the Administration Building at 229 Meetinghouse Road, Horsham. Public comment is welcome at all meetings.
