Over the past 3 years MYS has experienced a net loss of six fields in the McLean area with no new fields being constructed. As a result, we have over 120 players that travel to Herndon to practice from 9-10:30 pm and others will probably join them in the spring when we will lose the Police Field due to the $20.1 million expansion and renovation of the McLean Government Center and Dranesville Supervisor's office.
The only new fields that are in the foreseeable future are the 2 fields that are planned for Salona Park. Supervisor Foust and a few others are opposing the construction of fields there in spite of the fact that the Park Authority paid $16.1 million to the Duval Family with the understanding that 2 fields would be built there.
We need your support to help to convince Supervisor Foust and the Task Force that we need and want the fields. Your support is critical.
McLean Youth Athletics, Inc., in conjunction with youth sport organizations including McLean Youth Soccer, McLean Youth Lacrosse, McLean Rugby, McLean Track, McLean Football and McLean High School Athletic Booster Club desires to promote the construction of new fields in McLean for all McLean youth sports.
Currently, MYA with its members and other youth sport organizations in McLean is seeking community support for the construction of two unlit grass fields at Salona Park as provided for in the Deed of Open-Space and Conservation Easement purchased by Fairfax County for $16 Million and as proposed in the Master Plan for Salona Park prepared by the Fairfax County Park Authority.
We, the undersigned, hereby petition the Salona Park Task Force, Fairfax County Park Authority and Supervisor John Foust to support and promote the construction two new unlit rectangular grass fields at Salona Park as provided for in the Deed of Open-Space and Conservation Easement and proposed in the Fairfax County Park Authority Master Plan for Salona Park.
