The Issue
Petition to Stop the Proposed Boys & Girls Club Development at Monument Street and Broadway in Haverhill
We, the undersigned residents of Haverhill and surrounding communities, are calling for a halt to the proposed Boys & Girls Club development at the intersection of Monument Street and Broadway.
While we recognize the importance of providing resources for children and teens, we believe this particular location raises serious concerns about the environment, local wildlife, and public safety that must be addressed before this project moves forward.
Protect Haverhill’s wildlife and natural habitat. The 6.5-acre property is currently undeveloped land that provides valuable space for local wildlife. Building a large facility on this site could destroy natural habitat, displace animals, and further reduce the open space available to wildlife in our community. Once this land is developed, the damage to the surrounding natural environment may be irreversible.
Prevent a traffic nightmare. Monument Street and Broadway are already major traffic routes near the Interstate 495 interchange. Adding a large facility with two full-size gyms, a daycare, and a teen center could bring a substantial increase in daily traffic, including parents dropping off and picking up children, staff, visitors, and event attendees. The potential for increased congestion, dangerous intersections, backups, and delays is a serious concern for residents and commuters who already use these roads.
Protect the quality of life in our community. Haverhill residents deserve thoughtful development that respects our environment, considers existing traffic conditions, and protects the safety of everyone who lives, works, and travels in the area.
We are asking city and state officials to reconsider this location, fully evaluate the environmental impact and projected traffic, and explore alternative sites that would allow the Boys & Girls Club to expand its services without sacrificing valuable wildlife habitat or worsening an already busy traffic corridor.
Our goal is not to oppose opportunities for Haverhill’s children. It is to ensure that development happens in the right place, for the right reasons, without unnecessary harm to our community.
Please sign and share this petition to help protect Haverhill’s wildlife, preserve our natural spaces, and prevent further traffic congestion at Monument Street and Broadway.
Our community deserves a better solution.
