Petition to STOP Mental Health Housing Facilities, AT 413 & 825 Ocean Avenue, SM, CA
Petition to STOP Mental Health Housing Facilities, AT 413 & 825 Ocean Avenue, SM, CA
The Issue
Dear Residents,
We’re reaching out to share an important community petition regarding two proposed mental-health housing facilities on Ocean Avenue to be operated by St. Joseph Center: a 29-bed site at 413 Ocean Ave. slated to open before the end of October 2025, and a 20-bed site at 825 Ocean Ave. expected to follow. Many residents have raised concerns about limited public notice, safety planning, and opportunities for community input.
We all support compassionate, well-planned solutions to help those in need. However, this particular project feels misguided. With only 29 rooms, it will not make a meaningful impact on the broader homelessness crisis but could create new safety and quality-of-life challenges in a neighborhood where none currently exist.
We want this to stop now. The information received to date is even more concerning and raises serious questions about the project’s intent, transparency, and long-term impact on the community.
Please add your signature if you wish to support it. Your participation will help us communicate a unified community stance to Los Angeles County officials and local representatives.
Thank you for your engagement and continued care for our community.
Sincerely,
Ocean Avenue Residents
