The Hazelwood School District Board of Education is voting February 7, 2017 to close Hazelwood East Middle School and relocate the 6th-8th grade students to Hazelwood East High School for the school year 2017-2018.

This decision will put children as young as eleven years old in an environment with students who are adults. In addition, the High School does not have the space or accommodations for East Middle School students to relocate to East High School. Another concern would be scheduling conflicts; breakfast, lunch, accessing the nurses office, library, and gym, just to name a few.

This could also effect the community by possibly lowering property values, causing prospective buyers not to purchase, and or existing residents to move.

Many parents, guardians, teachers, and community members are opposed to the closure of EMS-East Middle School.

The next Informational Meeting will be at East High School, Wednesday, January 18, at 6pm.
