The Issue

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the sudden and non-collaborative effort to fund a reproductive health care clinic in our community through HB 450.  Our community leaders and residents have repeatedly asked Governor Lujan Grisham for specific, targeted funding for our existing medical center, ie. mammography, oncology, and ICU - support that would truly serve the needs of our rural population.  Instead, capital outlay funds were appropriated for an abortion clinic.  We believe this move disrespects the priorities of the people who actually live here.

While we affirm the importance of comprehensive healthcare for women, we reject the idea that abortion is needed.  Meanwhile, this entire region of the state (Colfax, Union, San Miguel, Mora, Harding, and other counties) desperately need prenatal care, fertility counseling, mental healthcare, and other vital resources for women's wellness.  Our county needs support for maternal health, mental health, and family services- not a clinic focused on terminating pregnancies/life.
