Petition to stop Australia new law to keep pets away from their caregivers for >180 days
The Issue
Dear friends,
A campaign with a lot more signature and same purpose is here, you can support this petition with signing this campaign. I will delete this petition ASAP. Thanks.
Who is affected?
All cat and dog pets which are meant to enter Australia from a country which is NOT mentioned in the below list, must spend a mandatory 180 consecutive day period in a third country and then enter Australia to pass spend quarantine time and after that, they can live with their caregivers (around 200 days of separation).
Why such drastic measure was taken? Was it that necessary?
The justification for such animal cruelty legislation is that the previous measures have been prone to cheating. While no other country has such measures, more strict biometric identification, along with other methods could be employed to become confident about an animal health without abuse.
Why is action needed now? What is happening?
A new legislation by Australian government, ministry of agriculture imposes an irrational and animal-abusive mandatory condition including holding beloved pets, away from their caregivers for 180 consecutive days in an third country.
The justification is mostly that previous conditions were prone to cheating, while no other country has imposed such legislation, there are several scientific and reasonable measures to maintain a strict biometric identification for pets.
These animals will most likely suffer from stress and separation anxiety after such long period (in addition to the quarantine in Australia upon entrance).
How could a pet stay at the same health and mental condition after 180 days of being away from their caregivers in a third country? This is an obvious animal abuse, affecting pets and pet owners who want to enter Australia from countries other than the ones in the following list. (Many countries such as India are not in the list)
List of the approved countries:
Residents of all countries which are NOT included in this list, must send their pet to a third, approved country for 180 consecutive days and then bring to Australia:
