Petition to Save the Darling Cottage in Lake Orion, Michigan!

The Historic Darling Cottage is located at 160 Darling Drive, Lake Orion, Michigan, and is currently under the threat of demolition due to the historical prominence in the Village of Lake Orion.  The Darling Cottage was built in 1884, which was the very first home built on Lake Orion.  This home is in the process of being permitted for demolition.  The present owners have a pending sale on the Darling Cottage along with Orion Marine within sight of this home.   Unfortunately, it looks like this iconic home will be torn down by a developer, for 8 condo residences.  This petition is to Save this Historic Property and to block any re-zoning of the Darling Cottage.   This home could be an asset to the town as a museum,  clubhouse, tea parties, and/or special events.

This location was also where the “Lake Orion Sea Serpent" story originated. Two women fishing near the dock at Darling Cottage spotted a very large serpent-like head rise from the water.  People were quite skeptical but many other sightings were later reported and the story and the size of the monster grew into the folklore of our town as well as the nickname for our High School "The Lake Orion Dragons”.  Some of the unique features of this lake home include the typical wainscoting and arches between the two sitting rooms, a butler's pantry, and a trunk room that still has the original carpeting. There is a brick floor in the cellar which is unusual.

Please sign, share, and spread this petition far and wide to help us save one of the most historic and iconic cottages in Michigan!
