Girls' flag football is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in the nation. It has already been sanctioned as an official high school varsity sport in 17 states and is scheduled to make its historic Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Here in Utah, the enthusiasm is undeniable. Driven by the grassroots efforts of the Utah High School Girls Football Association (UHSGFA) and backed by generous developmental grants from the Las Vegas Raiders, hundreds of female athletes across the Wasatch Front are already competing at the club level. They are proving their dedication, skill, and passion every single week.
However, without official UHSAA sanctioning, these athletes are denied access to formal varsity letters, state championship recognition, school athletic funding, and equal exposure to collegiate athletic scholarships.
