Petition to Restore Grass Cutting Services in Erewash Borough Council Parks & Verges

The Issue

To: Erewash Borough Council

We, the undersigned residents and visitors of Erewash Borough, hereby petition Erewash Borough Council to reverse its recent decision to cease grass cutting services in the vast majority of parks and grass verges throughout the area.

Background:
Erewash Borough Council recently announced its decision to discontinue grass cutting services in many of our cherished parks and green spaces. This abrupt decision has shocked and dismayed residents, as it threatens the well-being, safety, and aesthetics of our community spaces.

Reasons for Petition:

  • Neglected Parks: The cessation of grass cutting services is going to result in a rapid deterioration of our parks, transforming once vibrant spaces into neglected areas that are uninviting and potentially unsafe for residents, particularly children and families.
  • Public Health and Safety: Overgrown grass not only detracts from the beauty of our parks but also poses safety hazards, including increased risks of tripping, falling, and encountering hidden hazards such as sharp objects or debris.
  • Community Discontent: Residents are already voicing their dissatisfaction with the council's decision, highlighting the negative impact it is having on their quality of life and sense of pride in their community.
  • Environmental Concerns: Unmaintained green spaces can have detrimental effects on the local environment, including the loss of biodiversity and the proliferation of pests and invasive plant species.
  • Economic Impact: Neglected parks may deter visitors and potential investors, ultimately harming the local economy and property values in the area.

Request:
We call on Erewash Borough Council to reconsider its decision and take immediate action to reinstate grass cutting services in all parks throughout the borough. Specifically, we request the following:

  1. Restore regular grass cutting schedules to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and accessibility of our parks for all residents.
  2. Allocate sufficient resources and manpower to maintain all green spaces within the borough to a high standard.
