The Issue
PETITION TO SAVE NEWBURGH-BEACON FERRY
Petition to Governor Hochul, the MTA Board, United States Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, Congressman Pat Ryan, and New York State Senators and Assembly Members
In July 2025 the MTA abruptly stopped the Newburgh Beacon ferry service with no warning to commuters, representatives, or the general public.
We, the undersigned, call on you to restore and reform the Newburgh–Beacon Ferry without delay.
On a day-to-day level the Ferry eases traffic on congested roads and parking lots, creates a much shorter commute from the west side of the Hudson to the east side and Metro North, and connects the two communities of Newburgh and Beacon with affordable transportation.
On a larger scale, the Ferry supports climate-friendly transportation, drives economic development, boosts tourism, strengthens downtown businesses, and supports regional commerce by connecting workers, visitors, and local employers. The benefits ripple out across the Hudson Valley to truly provide an important link in a growing multi-modal Hudson Valley transportation system.
