Petition to Restore Democracy at FAU: Demand a Re-Election

Petition to Restore Democracy at FAU: Demand a Re-Election
The Issue
We, the undersigned students of Florida Atlantic University, demand immediate action to address a serious failure in the recent Student Government election process. Under Student Government Statute 324.200, a re-election must be held in the event of an elections process failure. That threshold has been met — and exceeded.
What Happened:
- The student body overwhelmingly elected Jean and Ellie to be our next Student Body President and Vice President.
- They were disqualified for allegedly violating a campaign rule that was never shared with them by the SG Advisor, the Supervisor of Elections, or any university official.
- Both the SG Advisor and Supervisor of Elections distributed outdated campaign rules, and then used a different, uncommunicated rule to disqualify the winning ticket.
- The Elections Board, which is supposed to oversee all elections and ensure fairness and due process, did not exist. One individual made the disqualification decision alone — a direct violation of the required process.
- Appeals were filed based on the deadline given by the SG Advisor, yet they were thrown out without the candidates ever being heard.
This is not just a procedural error. This is a systemic failure that invalidated student votes and disrespected student voices.
Our Demands:
We call on the following officials to sign a declaration of elections process failure and authorize a re-election under Statute 324.200:
- The SG Advisors
- The Chief Justice
- The Student Body President
- The Supervisor of Elections
FAU students deserve a fair election. We deserve clear rules, impartial enforcement, and accountability. Jean and Ellie are ready to run again and respect the outcome — but not in a rigged or broken system.
We, the students, demand a re-election now.
