Petition to Reopen Chinese I (Entry Level) at Reagan High School for Fall 2026

To the North East ISD Board of Trustees:

We respectfully request that the Board direct Reagan High School to reopen Chinese I (entry-level Chinese) for Fall 2026.
These 42 students enrolled 2026-2027 for Chinese level 1 are forced to choose another language on short notice.

Sustained Demand (Enrollment Data):

* 2026–2027: 42 students
* 2025–2026: 44 students
* 2024–2025: 45 students
* 2023–2024: 36 students
* 2022–2023: 41 students
* 2021–2022: 41 students

These figures show stable, multi-year interest for a specialized language program—sufficient to maintain a viable entry-level course and pipeline.

Why Chinese I Matters:

* Essential pipeline: Chinese I is the gateway to all higher levels, including AP Chinese. Without it, the entire program is at risk.
* District-wide access: As NEISD’s only Chinese program, it serves students across attendance zones.
* College readiness: Multi-level coursework and AP options support transcripts, credits, and competitiveness.
* Diversity & inclusion: For 19+ years, the program has strengthened cultural literacy and broadened perspectives for thousands of students.

Practical Request:
Maintain Chinese I for the next 2–3 years while the school and community expand awareness and recruitment. Once discontinued, programs are significantly harder and costlier to restart.

We value NEISD’s commitment to equitable access and meaningful academic pathways. Preserving Chinese I aligns with that mission and with demonstrated student demand.

Call to Action:
Please sign and share this petition to urge the NEISD Board to restore Chinese I at Reagan High School for Fall 2026. Add your name and contact information below to show community support.

Sincerely,
Parents of NEISD
