We, the residents of Holmes Point Road,  Donna Drive, Duclos Point and supporters of Pefferlaw and the surrounding Lake Simcoe watershed, respectfully request that the “Shake Your Buoy” event be relocated to a more suitable venue outside our small residential and environmentally sensitive community. Pefferlaw is home to protected wetlands, wildlife habitats, and quiet residential roads not designed to support large‑scale commercial events. Hosting this event here is counter to the purpose and preservation of our nature reserve.

Why This Matters
Duclos Point Nature Reserve on the south shore of Lake Simcoe is not a spot to party, it is an ecologically significant area that includes wetlands, migratory bird routes, and sensitive shoreline ecosystems. Large commercial events like “Shake Your Buoy” introduce noise, traffic, waste, and disruption that directly conflicts with the conservation goals of this region.  

Key Concerns
- Environmental Impact  
  The nature reserve is home to protected species and fragile ecosystems. High‑volume boat traffic, vehicle congestion, and amplified music threaten wildlife, nesting areas, and water quality.

- Traffic & Safety Risks  
  Pefferlaw’s roads are narrow, rural, and not designed for large event traffic. Past events have caused congestion, unsafe parking conditions, and emergency‑vehicle access concerns.

- Noise & Community Disruption  
  Residents choose Pefferlaw for its quiet, natural environment. The event’s commercial scale and noise levels disrupt the peace and well‑being of families, seniors, and those who rely on the tranquility of the area.

- Misalignment With Land Use  
  A nature reserve is intended for conservation, recreation, and education, not large‑scale entertainment events. Allowing this sets a harmful precedent for future commercial activity in protected areas.

Our Request
We ask organizers and municipal decision‑makers to relocate “Shake Your Buoy” to a venue that is properly zoned, environmentally appropriate, and equipped to safely host large crowds. Many nearby communities have commercial event spaces that can support this type of gathering without harming protected land or disrupting residents.

This petition is not against celebration or community events, it is about ensuring they occur in locations that respect the environment, the people who live there, and the long‑term health of our natural spaces.
