PETITION to reject AYPA Power's (Cajun Crescent) proposed Solar Panel Farm
The Issue
We, the undersigned, hereby petition the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury to reject the building of the proposed 3,656 Acre solar panel farm by AYPA Power (Cajun Crescent), in the communities of Moss Bluff, Gillis and Topsy, spanning from Topsy Road to Goss Ferry Road. This project would re-zone the now 3,656 Acre Agriculture property into an Industrial Property. As residents of these communities, we cherish the beautiful trees, our serene culture, and the wildlife it holds. Whether we grew up in this area or moved into this area, we all share the reason why we chose to live here. We DO NOT want to see a solar panel farm coming in and taking these things away from us. This 3,656-acre solar panel farm will require the removal of much needed and beautiful trees, destruction of animal habitat and create more flooding issues due to the removal of so many trees. The proposed solar panel farm would devalue our homes and property and create unwanted heat to the surrounding area and atmosphere. It would also pose health hazards and would be unsightly. This is a 30-year contract, and due to climate change, the chance of us having another major hurricane in that time is very high. Imagine thousands of solar panels becoming airborne and the chemicals from the broken solar panels leaching into the ground and atmosphere, which would have devastating effects, not only on our generation, but for generations to come. We ask, as a community, NOT to approve the construction of this solar panel farm. Thank you!
