We, the undersigned parents, students, alumni, and community members of Harbor Springs, are calling on the Harbor Springs School District to reinstate Coaches Amy and John Flynn to their coaching positions.

This petition is born from deep admiration and respect for two individuals who have done far more than just coach basketball — they have inspired, mentored, and transformed the lives of young athletes. Over the past several years, the Flynns have worked tirelessly to rebuild the basketball program, fostering a culture of unity, accountability, and purpose both on and off the court.

Coach Amy Flynn, in particular, has had a profound impact on our students, including our own daughters. Her dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to fairness have shaped these young athletes in meaningful, lasting ways. She holds her players to high standards, encourages their growth, and supports them as both athletes and individuals. That is the very definition of a great coach.

Despite this, Coaches Amy and John Flynn have been released from their positions — without explanation, communication, or transparency from the school administration. The decision, made by the Athletic Director and Superintendent, has left players, parents, and the community in confusion and frustration.

We are deeply concerned not only by the loss of these respected coaches, but also by the lack of leadership and accountability displayed throughout this process. In a time when strong, ethical, and compassionate role models are needed more than ever, dismissing the Flynns is a step in the wrong direction.

We respectfully ask the Harbor Springs School Board and administration to:

Reevaluate the decision to remove Coaches Amy and John Flynn.

Communicate transparently with the community regarding decisions that directly affect our students and programs.
Prioritize the long-term vision and culture of our athletic department by supporting the people who are truly making a difference.

Let’s stand up for the coaches who have stood by our kids. Let’s demand better for our athletes, our school, and our community.
