Petition to Reduce the Speed Limit on Ketner Blvd, Havelock, NC

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and community members, respectfully petition the Havelock City Council and the North Carolina Department of Transportation to reduce the posted speed limit on Ketner Blvd from 35 mph to 25 mph.

Ketner Blvd is a residential roadway where many families, children, and pedestrians live and travel daily. The current speed limit of 35 mph allows vehicles to move too quickly for a neighborhood setting, creating ongoing safety hazards for residents.

Reasons for This Request:

Frequent speeding and increased traffic have made it unsafe for residents entering or exiting driveways.

Children regularly walk, bike, and wait for school buses along Ketner Blvd.

Limited visibility and narrow shoulders create additional danger for pedestrians.

Pets and residents are at risk due to vehicles traveling at unsafe speeds.

Requested Action:

We respectfully request that the speed limit on Ketner Blvd be reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph, and that the City of Havelock and NCDOT consider additional safety measures such as:

“Children at Play” or “Slow – Residential Area” signage,

Flashing speed awareness signs, or

Speed bumps or other traffic-calming options where appropriate.

Community Impact:

Lowering the speed limit will:

Significantly improve safety for pedestrians, children, and pets,

Encourage more cautious and respectful driving,

Reduce traffic noise and disturbances, and

Help preserve the peaceful, family-friendly character of our neighborhood.

We, the undersigned, urge the City of Havelock and NCDOT to take prompt action to ensure the safety of all residents along Ketner Blvd.
