We, the homeowners of Wyrley View in Bloxwich, respectfully urge Walsall Council to review and adjust the council tax bands assigned to our new build properties, developed by Taylor Wimpey. We are deeply concerned that our current tax bands are disproportionately high compared to neighbouring areas, where homes just a few meters away fall into significantly lower bands.  

As first-time homeowners striving to build a better future for our families, the unexpectedly high council tax burden has placed immense financial pressure on us. This strain affects our quality of life, making it difficult to balance essential expenses, support our children's education, and manage daily living costs. Additionally, the challenges of longer work commutes and infrequent refuse collection further compound our struggles.  

We believe that the current tax banding is not reflective of the true value of our homes, nor is it consistent with the rates applied to similar properties nearby. We kindly ask Walsall Council to take into account the following:  

1. Unfair Discrepancies: Homes located just 5 meters outside our community are placed in tax bands that are three to four levels lower, despite being of similar size and value.  
2. Financial Burden: The high council tax rates are disproportionately impacting young families and first-time buyers, affecting our ability to manage household finances.  
3. Community Wellbeing: The financial strain is undermining the stability and joy of homeownership, which should be a positive and fulfilling experience.  

Our Request  
We respectfully request Walsall Council to:  
- Conduct a comprehensive review of the council tax bands for all properties in Wyrley View.  
- Adjust our tax bands to align with those of neighbouring properties of comparable value and size.  
- Implement a fairer and more transparent banding system that reflects the true value of our homes.  

This petition is a plea for fairness and equity. We are not asking for special treatment, but rather for consistency and consideration. We believe that a fair adjustment will not only alleviate our financial stress but also restore our faith in the council’s commitment to supporting its residents.
