The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, property owners, business owners, and taxpayers of Granville County, respectfully urge the Granville County Board of Commissioners to halt the advancement of large-scale data center development until the long-term impacts on our county have been fully studied and the citizens of Granville County have been given a meaningful voice in the decision-making process.

Granville County is more than vacant land. It is our home. It is where we raise our families, operate our farms and businesses, enjoy our natural resources, and preserve the rural character that makes our community unique.

Data centers may bring economic opportunities, but they can also create significant demands on public infrastructure and resources. Before approving projects of this magnitude, the people of Granville County deserve clear, transparent answers regarding:

The long-term impact on our water supply.
The strain on our electrical infrastructure.
Noise generated by cooling systems and backup generators.
Environmental impacts and land use changes.
Traffic during construction and operation.
Effects on neighboring homes, farms, and property values.
The true number of permanent local jobs that will be created.
Any tax incentives or public investments offered to developers.
Emergency preparedness for facilities of this size.
We believe decisions of this importance should not move forward without full transparency and substantial public participation.

Therefore, we respectfully request that the Granville County Board of Commissioners:

Pause approval of any new large-scale data center projects until independent studies are completed and made available to the public.
Hold additional public hearings to allow residents adequate opportunity to ask questions and provide input.
Ensure complete transparency regarding agreements, incentives, infrastructure costs, and environmental impacts.
Adopt land-use policies that protect existing neighborhoods, farmland, natural resources, and the rural character of Granville County.
Place the interests of Granville County residents above outside corporate interests when making decisions affecting our community.
This petition is not opposed to responsible economic development. Rather, it is a call for thoughtful planning, transparency, and accountability before irreversible decisions are made.

By signing below, we respectfully ask our elected officials to slow down, listen to the citizens they represent, and protect the future of Granville County.
