Petition to Protect Falcon Fields Allotment in Enfield !

The Issue

We, the undersigned, stand united in opposition to Enfield Council's proposed rent hike and potential threat to Falcon Fields Allotment's ownership.

Additionally, we condemn the council's failure to adhere to its own  principles, as outlined in the Enfield Council Plan 2023-2026.

Background:

Falcon Fields Allotment has  been a cherished community space, fostering cohesion, camaraderie, sustainability, and access to fresh produce for over 100 years.

It is a vital part of Enfield's History and Heritage as the land  was  granted to pensioners and ex-service men in recognition and appreciation of the community's  specific contributions to past war efforts.

However, recent actions by Enfield Council not only undermines the principles outlined in its strategic plan, it also puts our community history and heritage in jeopardy.

Rent Hike:

Enfield Council's proposal to increase rent by 200% disregards the financial strain it would impose on current allotment holders and the community many of whom rely on these plots for sustenance  and food security.

This contradicts the council's commitment to promoting a thriving and sustainable community.

Ownership Threat:

The potential transfer of ownership  by Enfield Council jeopardises Falcon Fields  Allotment's history, heritage and it's status as a community asset.

Privatisation or commercialisation would undermine the council's goal of enhancing the local environment and supporting community-led initiatives.

Lack of Community Engagement:

Enfield Council's failure to engage with the allotment community and the local community  in decision-making processes violates the principles of transparency and collaboration outlined in their 2023-2026 plan.

This undermines trust and accountability within the community and goes against the council's stated commitment to meaningful engagement.

Our Demands:

  1. **Immedite halt in rent hike **: We demand that Enfield Council immediately halts any rent increases, ensuring continued affordability and accessibility for the community in alignment with the Enfield Council Plan 2023-2026.
  2. **Permanent Protection of Allotment Ownership:** Enfield Council must commit to preserving Falcon Fields Allotment as a community-owned space, adding it to The Register Of Community Assets , consistent with its goal of enhancing the local environment and supporting community-led initiatives.
    3. **Adherence to Community Engagement Principles:** Enfield Council must uphold it's commitment to meaningful community involvement in decision-making processes, as outlined in the Enfield Council Plan 2023-2026, to ensure transparency and accountability.

Why It Matters:

Falcon Fields Allotment is a vital community asset that promotes sustainability, social cohesion, and well-being.

It's preservation and proper management are essential for the fulfillment of Enfield Council's strategic goals , the protection of our community history and heritage and the welfare of current and future generations.

Conclusion:

We urge Enfield Council to align it's actions with the principles outlined in the Enfield Council Plan 2023-2026 by halting the rent hike, protecting our allotment ownership, history and heritage and engaging meaningfully with the people of the community.

Together, let us ensure that Falcon Fields Allotment remains a beacon of community spirit and environmental stewardship.

*Join us by signing and sharing this petition to hold Enfield Council accountable to its own strategic vision and safeguard Falcon Fields Allotment for future generations.*
