To the Townsville City Council and Relevant Decision makers,

We the Undersigned, respectfully petition for the protection, continued Operation and Future development of South Townsville Slipways. For 126 years, Townsville Slipways has been a vital piece of Maritime infrastructure in North Qld. It provides essential vessel maintenance, repair, retrofit and engineering services that support                                                                                         

 : Commercial maritime operators                                                                                           

 : Defence Contractors                                                                                                                                               

 : Fishing Fleets                                                                                                                                                                           

 : Tourism operators                                                                                                                                                               

 : Recreational Vessel owners

Townsville Slipways is more than a Community marine facility, it is a cornerstone of the regional economy. Its operations sustain Local jobs, support numerous small and medium businesses across the supply chain, and contribute significantly to North Queensland's maritime capability. The closure or reduction of Townsville Slipways services would have serious consequences for workers, families, maritime operators and the broader North Queensland Community. We are deeply concerned by proposals to close down South Townsville Slipways for future Carpark/Parkland development. We call on the council to:                             

 1: Protect Townsville Slipways from closure                                                                                                                                                                                               

2: Recognise its Economic, Social/Strategic value to Townsville, North Queensland and Australia                                                                                 

3:  Secure its Future for Industries/Jobs and Communities that depends on Us.

Townsville Slipways is an irreplaceable regional asset. Its loss would weaken Local industry, reduce maritime capability and diminish a long-standing part of our community's identity.
