HELP SAVE HARLEM "Petition to Protect American XL Bully Dogs: Defend Our Companions"

The Issue

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about recent news of impending legislation aiming to ban American XL Bully dogs, as proposed by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. We believe that a more measured and compassionate approach is necessary to address any concerns related to these dogs, rather than a blanket ban.

Why We Oppose the Ban:

1. Owner Responsibility: We firmly believe that the behaviour of any dog is primarily a reflection of the owner's care and training. It's not about the breed, but the nurturing and guidance provided by responsible owners. American XL Bully dogs, like any other breed, can be loving and gentle when raised in a positive environment.

2. Temperament Assessment: We propose that law enforcement agencies should assess the temperament and behaviour of individual dogs rather than banning an entire breed. If a particular dog displays dangerous behavior, appropriate measures can be taken to address the specific situation, such as mandatory training or restrictions.

3. Leash Laws: Another effective solution could be the implementation of leash laws for American XL Bully dogs in public areas. This would ensure the safety of all citizens while allowing responsible owners to enjoy the companionship of their beloved pets.

Personal Stories:

Many of us have American XL Bully dogs that are living proof of their gentle nature. Our dogs interact with children and adults alike, bringing joy and companionship to our lives. They are not vicious beasts but beloved members of our families. Since embarking on a new journey away from Teaching, I was able to take my mind off of things by looking after my puppy soon to be adult Dog called ‘Harlem’. He helped me develop in character, where as I gained a level of discipline and a huge sense of compassion for the world. His loving and kind nature helped me become more social which has now made him a community favourite amongst kids and adults.

Our Plea:

We urge Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and lawmakers to reconsider their stance on a complete ban of American XL Bully dogs. Instead, let's work together to develop a more equitable and effective approach that prioritises responsible ownership, individual assessment, and community safety.

Conclusion:

Join us in preserving the rights of responsible dog owners and ensuring that American XL Bully dogs are not unfairly targeted. Together, we can find a balanced and compassionate solution that keeps our communities safe while allowing these wonderful dogs to continue being cherished members of our families. Sign this petition and let your voice be heard! Feel free to share your personal stories (within the comment section) and wonderful experiences with an American XL Bully.
