PETITION TO PROTECT ACCESS TO TEMPLE AND SECURE RIGHT TO WORSHIP AT SYDNEY SHAKTI TEMPLE,

PETITION TO PROTECT ACCESS TO TEMPLE AND SECURE RIGHT TO WORSHIP AT SYDNEY SHAKTI TEMPLE,
The issue
We, the undersigned, respectfully urge Parramatta Council, NSW Government and the Commonwealth of Australia to uphold and protect the fundamental right of individuals to access Hindu temples freely, in accordance with Article 18 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights as observed by the law of Australia by ensuring consistent and reasonable access to our temple.
The law secures:
“Freedom to manifest one's religion or beliefs may be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary to protect public safety, order, health, or morals or the fundamental rights and freedoms of others.”
This petition seeks to secure equitable and unhindered access to our temple by highlighting:
• The critical importance of access to temples as sacred spaces for practicing faith, fostering spiritual connection, and nurturing cultural identity.
• Community consultation to ensure that any limitations are fair, transparent, and proportionate to needs of those who rely on these spaces for worship.
• A commitment from the undersigned to maintain public safety and order, and respect all fundamental rights and freedoms of our neighbouring community,
By signing this petition, we stand united in defence of religious freedom and the vital role Hindu temples play in the spiritual and cultural lives of communities. Let us honour this fundamental human right and work together to ensure that access to worship is preserved for all.
