Please sign this petition to support signage to prohibit U-turns at all times on Carlson Court  to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety for our community.

Carlson Court is a major walking and biking route used by children, parents, commuters, and recreational cyclists at all times of day.

The street is too narrow for safe U-turns, yet drivers regularly use it to turn around toward Highway 101.

We are also seeing:

1. Cars parking on sidewalks during school hours
2. Drivers failing to stop at the stop sign
3. Right turns on red while pedestrians and bicyclists are present
4. Illegal U-turns that come dangerously close to children and adults bicyclists, pedestrians, those on scooters, and parked cars.  U-turns are legal in California unless a sign prohibits them or specific road conditions make them unsafe or illegal. In Residential District, U-turns are only allowed if no cars are coming within 200 feet.
    

We are asking the City of Palo Alto to prohibit U-turns on Carlson Court at all times and install clear signage.  We already have a sign in Carlson Circle 100 feet away, which we can replicate but enforce for all times of day because it is a commuting road.

Let’s act now rather than wait for a serious injury or death involving a child or adult in our community.
