Petition to Preserve Title I Teachers in Boyd County Public Schools

Petition to Preserve Title I Teachers in Boyd County Public Schools
The Issue
To: Boyd County Board of Education and District Leadership
From: Concerned Parents, Families, and Community Members
Subject: Urgent Call to Maintain Title I Intervention Services for Our Students
We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and concerned citizens of Boyd County, strongly oppose the proposed elimination of Title I teachers from our public schools due to funding cuts.
Title I teachers provide critical support for students who are struggling in reading and other core subjects. These intervention specialists work directly with children who need extra help — students who might otherwise fall behind without targeted, small-group instruction.
Removing Title I teachers will result in:
- Fewer opportunities for struggling readers to catch up to their peers
- Increased classroom burdens on general education teachers
- Widening academic gaps, especially for low-income and high-needs students
Our children deserve better. Every child in Boyd County — regardless of their background or learning challenges — deserves a fair shot at academic success. Cutting these essential positions sends the wrong message about our commitment to equity, literacy, and early intervention.
We fully understand that the district is facing difficult budgetary decisions. We recognize that resources are limited and priorities must be balanced. However, we believe that removing Title I teachers will have long-term consequences on student achievement and equity — consequences that far outweigh short-term budget savings.
We urge the Boyd County Board of Education to:
1. Reconsider this decision immediately,
2. Explore alternative funding options or reallocations,
3. Engage with parents and stakeholders before finalizing cuts that will profoundly impact student outcomes.
We stand united in our belief that Title I teachers are not optional — they are essential!
Please hear our voices and prioritize the needs of the students who depend on this support the most.
Sincerely,
Sarah Clemins
