Petition to Preserve a Community Cultural Sanctuary in Los Angeles

Petition to Preserve a Community Cultural Sanctuary in Los Angeles
The Issue
We are calling for an immediate pause on eviction proceedings and time to pursue a community-led acquisition through a Community Land Trust (CLT).
For nearly a decade, Honey Hill has quietly grown into one of El Sereno’s most meaningful creative sanctuaries. Tucked in the hills of Northeast Los Angeles, this two-home property has been a refuge for artists, organizers, musicians, and neighbors seeking connection, healing, and a space to just be.
In a city where community space is rare and rapidly disappearing, Honey Hill has remained open, intentional, and grounded in collective care. It has hosted everything from backyard gatherings and socially distant game nights to poetry readings, healing circles, community gardening, and mutual aid efforts.
It is one of the few remaining truly affordable, community-rooted spaces in the area—and is now under threat.
The landlord has initiated eviction proceedings, but has also expressed openness to selling the property directly to the current residents—if a viable plan can be presented within days. With the support of Elena Popp and the Eviction Defense Network (EDN), we are defending our right to remain while urgently organizing a long-term solution to preserve the property for public good.
We believe this space—built with heart, not profit—should remain in the hands of the community.
We urge the property owner, the courts, and local stakeholders to:
- Pause any eviction proceedings
- Grant time for the community to organize a viable path forward
- Support the preservation of Honey Hill as a permanent cultural commons.
This is more than a house. It’s a living, breathing place of creativity, resistance, and rest—something our city desperately needs more of, not less.
"During the pandemic, this home saved me. It was the only space where I felt safe, seen, and connected.” – Local artist & community member
Help us protect Honey Hill. Help us show that community-led solutions are possible.
