The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and members of the local community, strongly object to the recent approval of the development of 300 new houses on former greenbelt land off Sandcross Lane, Reigate.

This proposed development presents numerous and serious concerns for our local area:

School Overcrowding & Child Safety

The nearby school is already oversubscribed and struggling with capacity.

Increased population from 300 new homes will place unmanageable strain on local education resources.

The safety of children is at risk due to increased congestion in an already busy area during drop-off and pick-up times.

Severe Traffic Congestion

Traffic along Sandcross Lane, Prices Lane and the A217 is already heavily congested during peak hours.

Adding hundreds of new residents and vehicles will worsen congestion, increase pollution, and pose road safety issues.

Emergency services and daily commuters will experience even more delays.

Healthcare Crisis

There is no local GP surgery to support the population increase.

Our nearest hospital is already at breaking point, with residents regularly waiting hours for an ambulance or to be seen in A&E.

Adding more demand to an overstretched NHS services is irresponsible and dangerous.

Destruction of former Greenbelt & Wildlife Habitats

The development will result in the irreversible loss of former greenbelt land, which provides vital green space and biodiversity for the area.

The land is home to a variety of wildlife, including bats that nest in the area—a protected species under UK law. Their habitats are under direct threat.

Building on this land would violate environmental protections and cause long-term ecological harm.

Once destroyed, these natural ecosystems cannot be replaced.

Ignored Local Voices

The local community has been opposing this development for over 5 years.

Residents have raised concerns repeatedly and yet our voices continue to be ignored.

We Demand:

1. Immediate reconsideration and reversal of the council’s approval.

2. A full, transparent impact assessment on infrastructure, healthcare, wildlife, environment, traffic, and schooling.

3. Genuine consultation with local residents before any further decisions are made.

We urge the council to respect the wishes of the local community, protect our environment, and ensure sustainable, responsible development.

Please sign this petition to stand with us in opposition to this harmful development.
