Dear Supporters of the Petition,
We want to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support in our fight to protect our neighborhood. Your commitment and dedication to this cause are truly inspiring. We wanted to provide you with an important update and urge you to take action to make a difference.
Firstly, we reached out to Supervisor Matt Dorsey, who represents District 6, inviting him to engage with us and address our concerns. Unfortunately, we have not heard back from him yet. However, we will continue our efforts to ensure our voices are heard by all relevant stakeholders.
The situation in our neighborhood is deteriorating further with each passing day. Several residents have had to call 911 due to attacks from homeless individuals, only to be put on hold indefinitely without ever speaking to an agent. This unacceptable lack of response puts our community at risk and underscores the urgency of our cause.
In light of these developments, we have taken action by contacting news agencies, Supervisor Matt Dorsey's office, Emily Cohen (Deputy Director for Communications and Legislative Affairs ), and Jordan Hartman from the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing. They are currently considering the approval of the project by June 2023. It is crucial that we spread the word and intensify our efforts to save our neighborhood.
To bolster our cause, let's remind ourselves and others of some key facts that highlight the concerns we have raised:
- The current system allows youth to reside in the project without being required to work or pay rent, creating a lack of incentive for employment and education.
- Mandatory illegal drug tests and on-site requirements for drug abstinence are absent, raising concerns about the sustainability of the harm reduction approach and the strain it may place on the city.
- Transparency and community involvement have been lacking in the decision-making process, leaving many residents and businesses uninformed and unheard.
- Numerous housing programs already exist nearby, placing an unfair burden on the residents, homeowners, and businesses in our community.
- The support for this project during the public discussion session came solely from non-profit organizations, while residents and local businesses expressed their opposition and concerns.
- The lack of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or clear guidelines raises worries about the project's impact on the neighborhood and the potential disturbances it may cause.
It is clear that our fight is far from over. We urge you to continue spreading the word about the petition, engaging with your neighbors, friends, and colleagues to join our cause. By amplifying our voices and gathering more signatures, we strengthen our position and increase the chances of meaningful change.
Together, let's make a stand for our community, our safety, and the well-being of our future generations. Share the petition through your networks, social media platforms, and any other means available to you. Every signature counts and brings us closer to achieving our goals.
We remain grateful for your ongoing support, and we firmly believe that with our collective efforts, we can protect our neighborhood from the potential risks and consequences of the proposed project.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication and commitment. Let's make our voices heard and ensure our concerns are taken seriously.
