The Issue
We, the undersigned, are writing to express our strong opposition to the proposed closure of Ysgol Clydau, a vital community asset for Tegryn and the parish of Clydau. Ysgol Clydau is a small rural school in Pembrokeshire. Inspectors described Ysgol Clydau as a “happy, caring and welcoming community” in their most recent report. We believe this closure will have a detrimental impact on our community and the well being of our children and families.
Reasons for Opposition:
Impact on Community
Ysgol Clydau is more than just a school; it’s a hub for community life, offering a safe and welcoming space for children, families and residents of all ages. It’s closure will isolate our community, leading to a decline in population and a weakening of our social fabric. We believe small schools to be a bedrock of rural communities, essential in the survival of the Welsh language, and most importantly, as loving, centres of academic excellence for our children.
Educational Impact
Ysgol Clydau provides a high quality education for our children, offering personalised attention and support. Closing the school will impact the educational outcomes of our children, and potentially create additional hardship for families. Not everyone has access to a car and shipping young children for miles on buses everyday is just wrong.
Financial Impact
Closing the school will result in increased costs for families and individuals including additional travel costs to attend alternate schools, lost opportunities for our children, and potentially lead to the loss of other community services.
Loss of Social and Recreational Opportunities
Ysgol Clydau offers various social and recreational opportunities, including community events. Closing the school will result in the loss of these opportunities, leading to social isolation and impacting the wellbeing of the community.
Historical Significance
Ysgol Clydau has a rich history in our community, and its closure would represent a loss of our collective heritage and identity. There has been a school on the site of Ysgol Clydau since 1880 (145 years).
Our Demand
We, the undersigned, demand that Pembrokeshire County Council reconsider its decision to close Ysgol Clydau and instead prioritise the needs of the our community by keeping the school open. We urge you to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the community, listen to our concerns, and work with us to find alternative solutions that support the needs of our children and families.
Deiseb i wrthwynebu'r bwriad i gau Ysgol Clydau
Rydym ni, y llofnodwyr isod, yn ysgrifennu i fynegi ein gwrthwynebiad cryf i’r bwriad i gau Ysgol Clydau, ased cymunedol hanfodol i Degryn a phlwyf Clydau. Mae Ysgol Clydau yn ysgol fach wledig yn Sir Benfro. Disgrifiodd Arolygwyr, yn eu hadroddiad diweddaraf, bod Ysgol Clydau fel "cymuned hapus, ofalgar a chroesawgar". Credwn y bydd cau’r Ysgol yn cael effaith niweidiol ar ein cymuned, lles ein plant a theuluoedd.
Rhesymau dros yr Wrthwynebiad:
Effaith ar y gymuned
Mae Ysgol Clydau yn fwy nag ysgol yn unig; mae'n hwb ar gyfer bywyd cymunedol, gan gynnig lle diogel a chroesawgar i blant, teuluoedd a thrigolion o bob oedran. Bydd ei gau yn ynysu ein cymuned, gan arwain at ddirywiad yn y boblogaeth a gwanhau ein gwead cymdeithasol. Credwn fod ysgolion bach yn sylfaen i gymunedau gwledig, yn hanfodol i oroesiad y Gymraeg, ac yn bwysicaf oll, fel canolfannau rhagoriaeth academaidd gariadus i'n plant.
Effaith Addysgol
Mae Ysgol Clydau yn darparu addysg o ansawdd uchel i'n plant, gan gynnig sylw a gofal personol iddynt. Bydd cau'r ysgol yn effeithio ar ganlyniadau addysgol ein plant ac, o bosibl, yn creu caledi ychwanegol i deuluoedd. Nid oes pawb yn gallu manteisio ar gar ac mae cludo plant ifanc am filltiroedd ar fysiau bob dydd ddim yn dderbyniol.
Effaith Ariannol
Bydd cau'r ysgol yn arwain at gostau cynyddol i deuluoedd ac unigolion gan gynnwys costau teithio ychwanegol i fynychu ysgolion eraill, colli cyfleoedd i'n plant, ac o bosibl arwain at golli gwasanaethau cymunedol eraill.
Colli Cyfleoedd Cymdeithasol a Hamdden
Mae Ysgol Clydau yn cynnig nifer o gyfleoedd cymdeithasol a hamdden, gan gynnwys digwyddiadau cymunedol. Bydd cau'r ysgol yn arwain at golli'r cyfleoedd hyn, gan arwain at ynysu cymdeithasol ac effeithio ar les y gymuned.
Arwyddocâd Hanesyddol
Mae gan Ysgol Clydau hanes cyfoethog yn ein cymuned, a byddai ei chau yn cynrychioli colli ein treftadaeth a'n hunaniaeth gyfunol. Mae yna ysgol wedi bod ar safle Ysgol Clydau ers 1867 (158 mlynedd).
Ein Gofynion
Rydyn ni, y rhai sydd wedi llofnodi isod, yn mynnu bod Cyngor Sir Penfro yn ailystyried ei benderfyniad i gau Ysgol Clydau ac yn hytrach blaenoriaethu anghenion ein cymuned drwy gadw'r ysgol ar agor. Rydym yn eich annog i gymryd rhan mewn deialog ystyrlon gyda'r gymuned, gwrando ar ein pryderon, a gweithio gyda ni i ddod o hyd i atebion arall sy'n cefnogi anghenion ein plant a'n teuluoedd.
