SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Glynn County Commissioners and Islands Planning Commission,

I am writing to formally express my strong opposition to the proposed rezoning of 646 Beach View Drive, St. Simons Island, to allow its use as an event venue.

This property is located within a quiet residential neighborhood whose character is defined by low traffic, limited commercial activity, and the peaceful enjoyment of homes by full-time and part-time residents. Rezoning this parcel to permit an event venue would fundamentally alter the neighborhood's character and set a troubling precedent for future commercial encroachment into residential areas.

The proposed event venue will bring large gatherings, increased traffic congestion, parking shortages, shuttle buses, delivery and service vehicles, amplified noise, outdoor lighting, and the use of temporary facilities such as portable restrooms. These impacts are incompatible with the existing residential neighborhood and would significantly diminish residents’ quality of life and property enjoyment.

Granting this rezoning request will impose ongoing burdens on surrounding homeowners who did not choose to live next to a commercial event operation.

For these reasons, I respectfully urge the Commission to deny the rezoning request for 646 Beach View Drive and to preserve the neighborhood's residential character.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and service to Glynn County. I trust you will carefully weigh the long-term impacts of this decision on the community.

Sincerely,
