Growing up in Northern California, my dad, Mark Eugene Wecker, was more than just a father—he was a steady and meaningful presence in the community. For over 40 years, he was deeply involved in the Northern California disc golf scene, sharing his passion for the sport with anyone willing to learn. Through that passion, he not only taught the game but also instilled values that defined his life: faith, kindness, and a genuine care for others.

Mark had a natural ability to bring people together. Whether on the course or in everyday life, he left a lasting impression through his warmth, integrity, and encouragement. Many who crossed his path experienced firsthand his willingness to invest time, share knowledge, and make others feel welcome.

The City of Shasta Lake’s plan to open a new premier disc golf course presents a meaningful opportunity to recognize someone who contributed so much to the local disc golf community. Naming this course in honor of Mark Eugene Wecker would serve as a lasting tribute to his decades of involvement and the positive impact he had on those around him.

More importantly, it would establish a legacy rooted in the values he lived by—community, sportsmanship, and a love for the game. It would also inspire future players to approach the sport with the same passion and respect he consistently demonstrated.

I respectfully ask the City of Shasta Lake and its local leaders to consider naming this new disc golf park in memory of Mark Eugene Wecker. This recognition would not only honor his life but also celebrate the spirit of community he helped foster.
