The Issue

On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, initiating a controversial World War II policy that incarcerated  over 100,000 Japanese Americans for crimes they did not commit. This imprisonment caused lasting economic and racial injustices for these people and their numerous decedents. I’m petitioning the federal government to mark February 19th as a day of remembrance for this dark point in American history.
