To the Honorable GovernorGretchen Whitmer, Members of the Michigan State Legislature, and the Michigan Public Service Commission:

We, the undersigned residents of Michigan, express deep concern regarding the recent substantial rate hikes by Consumers Energy. These increases are placing an undue financial burden on households and businesses across our state. Given the critical importance of affordable and fair utility rates for the well-being of Michigan citizens and the economic stability of our communities, we urgently request the following actions: 

1. Launch an Investigation: We call for an immediate and thorough investigation into the rate-setting practices of Consumers Energy to determine if these increases are warranted and fair.

2. Enhance Regulatory Oversight: We urge the state legislature and the Michigan Public Service Commission to enact and enforce stricter regulatory measures to prevent unjustified rate increases in the future.

These measures are essential to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in utility pricing, protecting the interests of Michigan residents and businesses alike.

Why This Matters:

- Financial Hardship:  Unchecked rate increases disproportionately affect low- and middle-income families, worsening financial inequities.
