Petition to Increase State Funding for K-12 Education in New Hampshire
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of New Hampshire, call on the General Court and Governor Kelly Ayotte to increase state funding for K-12 education to ensure our students receive an adequate education and our communities get relief from high property taxes.
Our Request:
Raise state adequacy aid to $7,000 per pupil, matching states like Texas that fund schools fairly without income or sales taxes.
Boost the Education Trust Fund from $363 million to $1.155 billion annually to support our ~165,000 students.
Fund this increase through existing revenue (e.g., business taxes, fees, or surplus funds), not new broad-based taxes.
Why It’s Needed:
NH’s current $4,100 per pupil is too low—courts say it’s unconstitutional, and it forces towns to hike property taxes.
Our kids deserve better, and our wallets need a break. Other no-tax states prove it’s possible.
We urge action in the 2027-2029 budget to make this a reality.
