The Issue

We, the undersigned, are calling on HCA Healthcare and local leadership associated with the Heathrow/Lake Mary property to take immediate responsibility for the welfare of the cattle currently housed on HCA-owned land benefiting from agricultural tax classification under Florida’s Greenbelt law.

For more than a year, concerned citizens have documented and reported serious concerns regarding the condition and care of these animals, including inadequate nutrition, insufficient supplemental feed, questionable access to clean water, lack of consistent oversight, and repeated signs of emaciation in nursing and pregnant cows. Community members have spent countless hours and personal funds attempting to provide feed and basic support to animals that should never have depended on the public for survival.

Most recently, a mother cow and her newborn calf were found deceased on the property after prior concerns regarding the mother’s body condition had already been reported to authorities. Residents are deeply disturbed that despite ongoing complaints and an open neglect investigation, these animals have remained in conditions that many believe are inconsistent with humane livestock care standards.

This issue extends beyond the cattle owner alone. HCA has financially benefited from the presence of these animals through agricultural tax advantages associated with the property. With those benefits comes a moral responsibility to ensure that animals housed on corporate-owned land are properly cared for and not subjected to prolonged suffering.

We are respectfully asking HCA to take immediate compassionate action by:

Purchasing the cattle from the current owner.
Partnering with reputable farm animal sanctuaries and rescue organizations to permanently relocate the animals.
Ensuring the bulls are separated to prevent further breeding.
Providing temporary veterinary oversight, nutrition, and humane care until relocation is completed.
Conducting an internal review of how these conditions were allowed to persist on HCA-owned property.
These animals have endured prolonged uncertainty and suffering. They deserve safety, proper care, adequate nutrition, veterinary attention, and the opportunity to live out the remainder of their lives peacefully in qualified sanctuaries.

This petition is not about punishment or hostility. It is about compassion, accountability, and doing what is humane and right.

We urge HCA to demonstrate leadership, responsibility, and humanity by acting immediately to protect these animals and help bring this situation to a peaceful resolution.

Signed,

Concerned Citizens and Animal Advocates
