PETITION FOR BRANCH GENERAL MEETING
TO: GAUTENG PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
FROM: CONCERNED MEMBERS OF THE VUT ZCCSF
DATE: 20 APRIL 2026
We, the undersigned members of the Student Organisation, hereby formally submit this petition to the Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee to raise our deep concern regarding the current state of leadership within our Branch.
The current Leadership has failed to effectively guide and manage the Branch. There is a growing perception among members that leadership decisions are influenced by personal relationships rather than fairness, transparency, and the best interests of the organisation. This has led to divisions, dissatisfaction, and a decline in the overall functioning and integrity of the Branch.
Furthermore, as members, we have made several attempts to raise our concerns in a constructive manner. However, these concerns have often been met with responses that are dismissive and, at times, disrespectful. This has created an environment where members feel unheard and undervalued, which is contrary to the democratic principles of our organisation.
In addition, it is deeply concerning that the Branch has not yet convened its First Quarter Branch General Meeting, which should have already taken place. This meeting is critical for Leadership to present their First Quarter Reports and account to the membership. The continued delay, and apparent unwillingness to convene this meeting, raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and compliance with organisational processes.
We have also noted with concern that the current Leadership has refused to initiate by-elections to democratically elect a new Branch Chairperson and Branch Organiser. This refusal further undermines the principles of accountability and member participation.
In light of the above, we, as members, hereby make the following demands:
• That a Branch General Meeting (BGM) be convened to discuss matters pertaining to the Branch.
• That by-elections be conducted to elect a new Branch Chairperson and Branch Organiser.
• That the current Leadership structure be reviewed and reshuffled where necessary to restore effective governance, unity, and accountability.
We therefore formally propose that the Branch General Meeting for the by-elections be held on:
Date: 02 May 2026
We believe this process is necessary to restore order, rebuild trust, and ensure that leadership reflects the will and best interests of the members.
This petition is not an act of defiance, but a responsible and necessary step to safeguard the future of our Branch and uphold the values of fairness, transparency, and democratic participation.
We trust that the Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee will treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.
Yours faithfully,
Concerned Members of the VUT Zion Christian Church Student
