Petition to Goffstown State Representatives: Increase State Funding for Public Schools

The Issue

Goffstown’s public schools face a growing financial challenge due to inadequate state funding. During the last school year, the average cost per pupil in Goffstown was $16,401. However, the State of New Hampshire provided only $4,573 per pupil in adequacy aid, leaving local property taxpayers to cover the significant shortfall.

Despite operating efficiently and maintaining one of the lowest costs per pupil in the state, Goffstown schools continue to grapple with yearly budget challenges. If the state fulfilled its constitutional responsibility to adequately fund public education, as affirmed by multiple New Hampshire court rulings, Goffstown could alleviate the property tax burden, invest in new programs for students, or achieve a balance of both.

We urge our elected representatives in Concord to honor their obligation and increase state funding for public education. It’s time to provide the resources our students deserve and ease the financial strain on local taxpayers.
