Encouraging Ethical Adoption Practices at SPCA Tampa Bay. #StopEncouragingBreeders
The Issue
Dear Animal Advocates,
We are writing this petition to express our deep concern regarding the recent decision by SPCA Tampa Bay to sell animals from COOPERATING breeders at their facility. It has come to our attention that SPCA Tampa Bay, an organization that has been dedicated to animal welfare for the past 83 years, has initiated a program called "For All Dogs Partnership," which promotes and facilitates the adoption of dogs from "responsible" breeders and supports the health of puppies from local pet stores by continuing to enable breeders to make high profits.
We believe that this decision goes against the core values of an animal pound whose primary mission should be to rescue and rehome animals in true need. By engaging in the sale of animals from breeders, SPCA Tampa Bay is inadvertently supporting an industry that often prioritizes profit over the well-being of animals. This practice perpetuates the cycle of overbreeding, leading to countless animals ending up in shelters or experiencing neglect and abandonment.
While we appreciate the desire to find homes for all animals, we firmly believe that promoting adoption from shelters and rescue organizations is the most ethical and responsible approach. There are already numerous animals in shelters waiting for loving families, and the focus should be on ensuring their well-being and finding them forever homes.
We respectfully urge SPCA Tampa Bay to reconsider their decision and redirect their efforts towards promoting adoption from shelters and rescue groups. By doing so, SPCA Tampa Bay can align its actions with the fundamental principles of animal welfare, reduce pet overpopulation, and support the animals that are already in desperate need of care and compassion.
Please sign this petition to express your disappointment and concern over SPCA Tampa Bay's decision to sell animals in cooperation with local breeders. Together, we can encourage them to uphold their longstanding commitment to animal welfare and prioritize the adoption of shelter animals.
Thank you for your support in advocating for the well-being of animals and promoting ethical adoption practices.
