The Issue

To the Leadership of Electronic Arts,

We, the undersigned players and long-time supporters of the Alice franchise, respectfully request that Electronic Arts reconsider the current status and long-term strategy of the Alice intellectual property.

Beginning with American McGee’s Alice and continuing through Alice: Madness Returns, the franchise has built a rare identity within gaming—defined by its psychological reinterpretation of Lewis Carroll’s work, its gothic atmosphere, and its highly distinctive artistic direction. It remains one of the most recognizable and stylistically unique adaptations of a literary universe in video game form.

Despite more than a decade without a new installment, interest in the franchise has not faded. It continues to appear across gaming communities, retrospective analysis, streaming content, fan-created works, and ongoing public discussion. Importantly, it is also being discovered by new audiences, demonstrating that engagement is not only sustained but gradually renewed over time.

Within the broader gaming industry, conditions surrounding legacy intellectual properties have shifted significantly. In recent years, there has been repeated commercial success for narrative-driven single-player experiences, stylistically distinctive projects, and the revival of dormant franchises. Properties once considered commercially uncertain have demonstrated renewed value when revisited under modern production models and audience expectations.

From a market perspective, Alice represents a recognizable and differentiated intellectual property with a consistent and active audience base. Its continued visibility places it among franchises that merit structured evaluation for revival, development, or modernization rather than indefinite inactivity.

We recognize and respect EA’s ownership of the franchise and understand that decisions regarding intellectual property are guided by long-term portfolio strategy. However, the sustained cultural presence and ongoing audience demand for Alice suggest that the franchise may warrant renewed consideration in today’s market environment.

Our Request:
We respectfully ask EA to actively consider viable pathways to bring the Alice franchise back into development, including the following options:

  • Re-evaluating internal development of a new Alice title within EA.
  • Exploring a revival partnership with American McGee, as the original creator with a long-established vision for the franchise.
  • If internal development is not a priority, considering a licensing or external development agreement that would allow an experienced studio to continue the franchise under EA’s ownership.
  • Evaluating modern remake, remaster, or reboot opportunities to reintroduce the franchise to current audiences.
  • Reviewing the long-term strategy of the IP in light of sustained community engagement and ongoing demand.
  • We are not insisting on a single outcome. However, we strongly believe that if internal development is not currently feasible, then partnering with or licensing the franchise to its original creator represents a natural and audience-supported path forward.

We are not asking for an immediate commitment to a new release. We are asking for meaningful consideration of whether the current inactive status of the franchise reflects its actual cultural and commercial potential today.

Signed,
Fans of the Alice Franchise
