At the age of 20, I discovered something that changed the way I see the summer nights in the UK. I learned that shockingly near the summer solstice, astronomical twilight lasts all night in the UK. This fact, owing to our geographical proximity to the Arctic Circle, is something many are surprisingly unaware of. Living under skies that never truly darken is a reality unique to our region, we routinely experience yet it remains a fascinating secret to most.

It is shocking that so few people in the UK are aware of this captivating phenomenon. The fact that the nights retain a subtle glow throughout the night in June adds a magical touch to our atmosphere, yet our education systems and cultural narratives seldom mention it. This petition aims to raise awareness and educate the ignorant British public on this natural marvel and many Brits live our entire lives without ever knowing this.

I propose that astronomy and geography lessons in schools include more information on our unique twilight experiences (so that people know about it earliest), nursery books include "blue nights in summer" and "black night in winter" so toddlers are aware and by incorporating this knowledge into our education system. Each new UK resident who signs this petition learns the truth about how dark our nights really get!
