Purpose:

We, the undersigned residents of Killearn Lakes Plantation, respectfully request that Leon County designate our neighborhood as a Golf-Cart Friendly Community under Florida Statute §316.212 and related local ordinances. This designation would allow properly equipped golf carts to operate on neighborhood streets with posted speed limits of 30 mph or less, subject to county approval, signage, and safety standards.

Reasons and Benefits:
• Reduces speeding and encourages safer neighborhood driving.
• Encourages responsible teen driving habits by allowing them to learn the fundamentals of driving
safely before transitioning to busier roads. Golf-cart use teaches courtesy, awareness, and respect for
traffic rules—and helps them understand that careless or disrespectful driving has real consequences
within their own community.
• Promotes walkable, connected community activity and reduces car congestion.
• Strengthens neighborhood bonds and provides a family-friendly amenity.
• Supports environmental and wildlife preservation goals — golf carts produce significantly fewer emissions than standard vehicles, reducing air and noise pollution. Their lower speeds and quieter operation help protect wildlife, maintain peaceful outdoor spaces, and preserve the natural environment that defines Killearn Lakes Plantation.
• Creates a calmer, more peaceful environment — golf cart travel reduces engine noise, traffic stress, and congestion, allowing residents to move about the neighborhood in a quieter, more mindful way. The result is a slower-paced, friendlier atmosphere that supports the relaxing character of Killearn Lakes Plantation.
• Increases convenience and affordability — golf carts are less expensive to operate and maintain than cars, saving residents money on gas and upkeep while making short neighborhood trips easier and more enjoyable.
• Builds a stronger sense of community — golf-cart neighborhoods encourage social interaction through shared transportation, spontaneous meetups, and community events centered around local connectivity.

• Protects property values and enhances community appeal.

Requested Action:
We respectfully petition Leon County to:
1. Designate the interior roads of Killearn Lakes Plantation (those posted at 30 mph or below) as golf-cart permissible.
2. Post appropriate “Golf Carts Permitted” signage at entrances and intersections.
3. Conduct any necessary traffic review and adopt a formal resolution or ordinance enabling safe community use.
