Thank you for signing our petition urging the parole board to keep Jose Gonzalez in prison for the murders of Essie and James Effron.  

We are pleased to report that the board has denied parole and ordered that Gonzalez remain behind bars for three more years. The petition, which has been signed by more than 6,850 people, definitely was a factor in the board's decision.  

While we are relieved that the murderer will stay in prison, we need to keep in mind that he will not necessarily be there for another three years, because the state has created a number of loopholes to get criminals back on the street much sooner than the amount of time called for in a parole denial.
