The Issue

Domestic violence continues to be a pervasive issue in our society, affecting countless individuals and families every day. As a survivor of such abuse, I know firsthand the devastating impact it can have on your life and well-being. My abuser's repeated actions were a nightmare I hope no one else has to endure.

Unfortunately, those who commit these acts of violence often do so more than once. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, about 50% of domestic violence offenders have also perpetrated repeated acts of violence. These repeat offenders pose a serious danger to their partners and families, and it's crucial that they are monitored more closely to prevent further abuse.

We have registries for sex offenders that help inform communities and prevent further crimes. Similarly, creating a registry for repeat domestic violence offenders could hold abusers accountable and act as a deterrent to future offenses. It would allow survivors to know if their abuser poses a continued threat to them or any future partners. Additionally, law enforcement and social services could better allocate resources to at-risk individuals.

Implementing such a registry would require a collaborative effort between lawmakers, law enforcement, and community organizations. It would involve developing a detailed legal framework to ensure that only those with multiple convictions are added and that their rights and victims' privacy are respected. Furthermore, we need educational campaigns to help the public understand the importance and use of the registry to protect themselves and their communities.

Join me in urging our leaders to take action and create a registry for repeat domestic violence offenders. It's time to prioritize the safety and well-being of domestic violence survivors and work towards a comprehensive solution that protects our communities. Please sign this petition to support the creation of a domestic violence offenders registry and help save lives.
