**Petition to Close the Liquor Store in Marshall, Alaska**

To: The City Council of Marshall, Alaska

Cc: Native Village of Marshall "Marshall Traditional Council", Ohogamiut Traditional Council, Community Leaders, and Relevant State Authorities

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of the community of Marshall, Alaska, respectfully submit this petition requesting the closure of the liquor store currently operating within our community.

Our request is based on the following concerns:

1. Public Safety and Community Well‑Being — The presence of the liquor store has contributed to increased alcohol‑related incidents, including violence, accidents, and disturbances that threaten the safety of families and children.

2. Impact on Youth — Easy access to alcohol increases the risk of underage drinking, long‑term addiction, and negative role‑modeling for young people in our community.

3. Health and Social Harm — Alcohol abuse has led to rising cases of medical emergencies, family conflict, and emotional trauma. These harms place additional strain on local health services and community resources.

4. Cultural and Community Values — Marshall has a long history of prioritizing sobriety, safety, and cultural preservation. The liquor store undermines these values and disrupts the social harmony our community works hard to maintain.

5. Community Consensus — Many residents have expressed that the liquor store does not reflect the will or best interests of the people of Marshall. This petition represents a collective call for action.

Therefore, we respectfully request that the City Council and relevant authorities take immediate steps to revoke the liquor store’s license and permanently close its operations.**

We believe this action is necessary to protect the health, safety, and future of our community.
