On Sunday, September 11th I attended a local pop Warner game to show support for my child. 

To my surprise the opposing team's Mascot was the Central Sqaure "Red Men" This was a shock to me as I was under the impression the school had changed it's name to the Red Hawks a long time ago. 

When approaching the coaches about this I was informed only the high school changed it's name and the pop Warner program kept it's "Red Men" name. I expressed my concern as "Red Men" is an outdated and offensive term, and indigenous people do not exist to be entertainment in the form of a Mascot for others. It was explained to me that this is not something they have control over. 

I however disagree and firmly believe the program should be named the Red Hawks across the board. Words matter and we should all be considerate of other cultures. Hearing 11 and 12 year old children cheer for the "Red Men" was unsettling. 

I emailed the president of the pop Warner program and have not heard back yet. I have provided a screen shot with their information.
