We, the students of Grand Ledge High School, along with Grand Ledge Public Schools (GLPS) students, staff and community supporters, respectfully petition Canines for Change to formally offer the placement of Facility Dog Arlo to Grand Ledge Public Schools, with the intent for him to remain at Grand Ledge High School.

Arlo was originally assigned to Grand Ledge High School to be puppy-raised by a trained handler within our school community. Throughout his time here, Arlo has not only adapted seamlessly to our school environment but has also formed a strong bond with our existing facility dog, Gravy. Together, they have brought comfort, emotional support, and a positive presence to countless students and staff members.

We understand that Arlo was initially intended for placement at another Michigan school, but we have since been informed that this placement is no longer moving forward. Given Arlo’s successful integration into our school community, we believe it is in the best interest of both Arlo and the students of Grand Ledge High School for him to remain here permanently.

Our Superintendent, Dr. Bill Barnes, has voiced a strong commitment to Arlo's continued presence and has stated his commitment of being willing to keep Arlo and ensure his long-term care and role in our district if Canines for Change extends the offer.

Arlo is already part of our daily lives. He has become more than a facility dog — he is a friend, a source of calm, and a beloved member of our school family. We urge Canines for Change to recognize the powerful impact Arlo has made and to make the offer that would allow him to officially remain at Grand Ledge High School.

Sincerely,
The Students of Grand Ledge High School
